The Kaua‘i AJA Baseball league’s best team, Kalaheo, continued their winning ways by beating Makaweli 16 to 2 in 7 innings (10 run rule game).
Kalaheo scored their 5th win with no losses, while Makaweli spotted their 5th loss in a row. In the other game, Lihu‘e secured their second victory 13 to 7 over Hanapepe, to improve their record to 2 wins and 3 losses, while Hanapepe’s record slipped to 3 wins and 2 losses.
In the first game, Lihu‘e pitcher Mikey Cardinez won his 2nd game of the season with the aid of his batting power to beat Hanapepe 13 to 7. Cardinez pitched 7 innings, gave up 5 hits, allowing 5 runs, walked 5 and struck out 6 batters.
With his mean bat, Cardinez singled twice, slugged an RBI double and drove in 2 runs, while scoring 2 runs. Lihu‘e’s Barry Kawamura pitched the last two innings to earn the save. Makaweli pitchers were Troy Yamase, Dean Nonaka, and Wendall Nonaka.
Hitters for Lihu‘e: Curtis Sadamitsu: 3 for 3, 3 walks, and 2 RBI’s. Tommy J. Cox, a single and a sacrifice, scored once and drove in 3 runs. Ahren Kaneshiro and Bobby Texeira each had two singles, scored a run and drove in a run. Aaron Adachi, clutch base hit drove in two runs, scored a run, and walked.
Landon Samiano singled, double, scored a run and drove in a run. Cody Bonilla singled, scored a run, hit by a pitch, walked and struck out once.
Dan Tanimoto mustered only a base hit. Hitters for Hanapepe: Wendall Nonaka a single and a double with 2 runs scored, Kelly Robinson: a double and a HR, hit by a pitch and drove in 3 runs. Troy Yamase muscled a double to drive in a run, walked and stole 2 bases in one inning. Troy Shigematsu doubled in a run, and scored a run.
For the second game, Unbeaten Kalaheo Pitcher Liko Perreira notched his fourth game with no loss in pitching his team to a 16 to 2 victory in a 7 inning rule.
Perreira pitched 5 innings gave up 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 4. Kalaheo displayed their muscles as they cranked out 16 hits, to include 4 homeruns, one of which was a grand slam by Tuki McCallum. Shannon Oketani pitched the last two innings to earn a save. Royce Ijima and Scott Shimabukuro pitched for Makaweli.
