The KIF’s second week of paddling was just as good as the first with crisp, clean conditions at the Wailua River.
Waimea swept both the boys and girls varsity races on Saturday in the KIF’s second regatta.
The Menehune girls (3:50.84) slithered past Kapa‘a (4:00.58), by almost 10 seconds.
Meanwhile, Waimea’s (3:20.13) boys squad edged Kula (3:21.83), with Kaua‘i not far behind at 3:25.89.
Kapa‘a (3:36.29) came out of the gates with a win in the varsity mixed contest over Kaua‘i (3:37.28), and Island (3:38.84).
Kaua‘i (1:37.69) was the fastest canoe in the water for the girls JV contest over Kapa‘a (1:49.10). Kaua‘i’s other JV girls squad followed its first squad just five seconds back (1:42.48).
In the JV mixed race, Kaua‘i (1:36.89) conquered over both Kapa‘a (1:40.14) and Kula (1:43.77).
KIF paddling continues this Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Wailua River. The race starts at 9 a.m.
Island School will host the last pentangular meet, which starts at 1 p.m. at the Wailua River.
Then it’s KIF championship time, as Kula High hosts the meet on Feb. 19, starting at 9 a.m.
This year’s HHSAA State Paddling Championship will be held at Ke‘ehi Lagoon on O‘ahu on March 4.
