HANAPEPE — Her first goal of the season turned out to be the biggest score of her life, as ‘Mini Me,’ Foster kicked in the championship clincher for the Kapa‘a Warriors girls’ varsity soccer squad, who were crowned as 2005 KIF champions, with a 20 win over Waimea yesterday at Hanapepe Ballpark.
“I feel so happy and I’m just so glad that we are going to states,” Foster said after the game.
Warrior head coach Crissy Marti, who resembles Foster, summed it up the best when she said, “We brought the pride back to the eastside.”
Kapa‘a waited four long years for this moment and it showed during the first goal’s celebration, as the team piled on Foster after the gamewinning score.
For Marti and the rest of the Kapa‘a coaching staff, which included Myrta McKeague, Maja Marti, and Colby Ayonon, it was something they planned for just about two years.
“I told them at the start, that we would do it in two years and we did,” Marti said.
Erica Brewer netted the second goal late in the second half for the Warriors.
Both teams were knotted up at 00 going into the halftime locker rooms, but Kapa‘a turned up the heat in the second half.
Kapa‘a goalie Meagan Pablo came up with great saves throughout the game and benefited from Amniesty Ragsac’s awesome defensive plays.
Waimea’s Chasen Sherman and Anna Baudouin couldn’t get past the tenacious Warrior defense and were surrounded by defenders throughout the entire match.
Kapa‘a now heads to the Waipio Soccer Complex on O‘ahu for the 2005 HHSAA state girls soccer championships, which run from Feb. 1619. The Waimea boys, the 2005 KIF boys champion, will travel to Maui at War Memorial Stadium from Feb. 912 for the HHSAA state boys soccer championships. In the boys varsity match, Waimea led at the half 31 and went on to route the Warriors, 72. Kapa‘a played with 11 players due to an injury from one of its players, just before the first half. Waimea’s goals came from: Wailea Arquette, 8th minute, Po‘okela ChangWo 11th minute, Jeffrey Kakuda 3 goals, 39th minute, 43rd minutepenalty kick, and 57th minute, Chad Thompson 55th minute, Scott Martin 68th minute. Kapa‘a’s scorers were Masai Bell 4th minute and Micah Ohlen 45th minute.
In JV action, the Kapa‘a girls grabbed the early 10, thanks to Ha‘ahea Oliver and she managed to duplicate her first half performance with another goal for the 20 win.
The Warrior boys were also victorious, as Chance Bukoski nailed three goals for the 50 win. Kahai Nakano and Terrence Cuyo netted one goal apiece.
