A high surf warning for north and west facing shores remains in effect through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Surf along north facing shores was expected to be 30 to 40 feet Monday night and diminish to 20 to 25 feet today. Surf on the westside was predicted at 15 to 25 feet on Monday and drop to 12 to 22 feet later today.
East and south-facing shores surf are expected to see 1 to 3 feet and 2 to 4 feet respectively.
The weather service said the current northwest swell should diminish slowly over the next couple of days and subside below advisory levels of 15 and 12 feet on the north and west shores by Thursday night.
However, another large northwest swell is forecast to reach the main Hawaiian Islands on Friday and surf was forecast to be near the warning level of 25 feet for north facing shores.
