LIHU‘E – Several days of balmy sunny weather gave way to rain clouds Saturday night.
Westerly Kona winds are forecast to continue today during the Dr. Martin Luther King holiday.
The National Weather Service is predicting that “strong northerly winds to the north of the state have generated a swell that will affect north facing shores” that will continue today with surf with faces over 25 feet expected.
Beachgoers are warned to stay out of the ocean and away from the shoreline to avoid dangerous surges and strong rip currents.
The weather today is expected to be mostly cloudly with scattered showers, with highs around 77 in coastal areas, and southwest winds from 15 to 20 miles per hour.
Tonight the weather is expected to begin to clear with scattered showers lessening and the wind turning to the west from 10 to 15 miles per hour.
Tomorrow look for partly cloudy conditions with isolated showers and highs into the low 80s. The winds are expected to turn to the northwest with only a 20 percent chance of rain.
The National Weather Service reported slight flooding across road surfaces over the weekend.
