A public meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 5 p;.m. to 7 p.m. at the County of Kaua‘i Mo‘ikeha Building meeting rooms to discuss two projects focused on revitalizing Lihu‘e town:
- The Lihu‘e Civic Center Site Improvements project, which was initiated by the County of Kaua‘i Department of Public Works over a year ago;
- Lihu‘e Town Core Urban Design Plan. Inspired by the business community’s desire to revitalize Lihu‘e town, this project follows through on the 2000 General Plan for Kaua‘i identifying Lihu‘e as the “heart” of Kaua‘i and a center for urban growth on the island. The project will provide a variety of recommendations, including design guidelines and future capital- improvement projects for Lihu‘e town, as well as traffic and parking issues. This project is guided by a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) composed of: Pat Griffin, Palmer Hafdahl, Laurie Ho, Avery Youn, Cheryl Lovell Obatake, Steve Kyono, Mike Furukawa, Sonia Topenio, Marc Ventura, Russell Seacat, Morton Yamasaki and Neil Clendeninn. The CAC members, together with officials with the county and planning team, have been busy working on the project, and have developed a vision statement for Lihu‘e town in the year 2025.
