Leaders in the county Finance Department, on behalf of the County of Kaua‘i, were recently recognized for excellence in financial reporting, Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste announced.
County officials received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR), for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2003.
According to GFOA officials, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
An impartial panel judged the county’s CAFR and found it to demonstrate a “constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR,” according to GFOA officials.
“Our Finance Department has worked hard to maintain our goals of financial accountability,” said Baptiste. “We will continue to strive for superior financial reporting each year.”
The award-winning CAFR is available online on the county’s Web site at www.kauai.hawaii.gov. The CAFR for fiscal year ending June 30, 2004 is expected to be available online in coming weeks.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 15,000 government finance professionals, with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
