Manuel R. Rivera Sr. of Hilo and formerly of Kekaha, died Jan. 5, 2005, at Hilo Medical Center.
Born in Koloa on May 2, 1918, he was a former heavy equipment operator for Kekaha Sugar Plantation.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friends may call again from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Kekaha; Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Community Cemetery.
He is survived by three sons: Manuel Rivera Jr. of Hayward, Calif., Vincent (Luwika) Rivera of Hilo and Martin Rivera of Kekaha; three daughters: Virginia “Shima” (Stanley) Madera of Manteca, Calif., Elizabeth (Carlos) Gonsalves of King City, Ore., and Ramona Rivera of Hilo; three brothers: Daniel (Gladys) Rivera of Ewa Beach, Frank (Louise) Rivera of Ceres, Calif., and Robert “Bobby” (Marla) Rivera of Honolulu; four sisters: Bella Boreliz of Hayward, Calif, Minnie Morales of Wahiawa, Marsha (Bobby) Stant of Hayward, Calif., and Mary Gandia of Kekaha; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
