Vintage Plantation, a palatial, private residence in Kapa‘a, won a Grand Award in the New Residential construction division for homes valued at more than $1.5 million in a recent Building Industry Association of Hawaii contest.
Entered by contractor Canaan Construction, Ltd., the home was the only Kaua‘i winner in the statewide contest.
Representatives of the Building Industry Association of Hawaii announced the other winners of the 19th Annual BIA Renaissance Building and Remodeling Awards, a program honoring quality construction and design of Hawai‘i’s best remodeling and new-construction projects.
Twenty-five entrants received awards for their outstanding achievement in construction and design at an awards banquet at the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel.
Some contractors with Kaua‘i ties or Kaua‘i offices, including Primatech Construction, Inc., won awards for their work.
Leaders at Canaan Construction, Ltd., who have offices on O‘ahu, also are part of a collaboration that won the Carl Reppun Award (presented to a small, residential contractor in honor of Carl Reppun, chair of the first Renaissance competition), for a residential remodeling job between $150,001 and $350,000, for Waterfront One in Honolulu.
Canaan Construction, Ltd. officials also won a Grand Award in the Residential Remodeling Division, for homes valued at over $350,000, with Peter Vincent & Associates LLC, for an O‘ahu residence, Seaside Retreat.
Entries were judged on strength of design ideas, aesthetic and market appeal, sensitivity to existing structure, appropriate use of existing building elements, functional value, compatibility with the neighborhood, and cost effectiveness.
American Savings Bank was the presenting sponsor, along with co-sponsors, Hawaii Business, HonBlue, and Reflections Glass Company. The publication sponsor was Hawaii Home+Remodeling magazine.
