Coach “O” and Mokihana Aquatics finished off the 2005 Age Group Short Course Championships with an impressive fourth-place finish on O‘ahu from December 18-21.
In addition to the team’s good showing, the male squad was able to grab third-place thanks in part to Ben Baldwin’s performances.
The Island Schooler took three second-place medals (400 IM, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breast) and three third-place wins (100 Breast, 200 Freestyle, 200 IM).
Randy Umetsu finished with an eighth-place showing in the 200 Back, seventh-place in the 100 Fly, and sixth-place in the 100 Back.
Sister Katelyn Umetsu was the only girl to medal for Mokihana. She tallied fifth-place in the 200 Fly.
Other Mokihana participants included Keyah-Leilani Agoot, Tyson Chihara, and Kelsey Tanaka.
“We are really excited about the high finish and for all the participants who went up, it was a good experience for them,” Mokihana Aquatics head coach Orlando Anaya said.
Mokihana Aquatics competed in the small team division, which was comprised of 17 teams from around the state.
Lahaina Swim Club took first-place in the small division, followed by the Kona Dolphins, and the Hickam Swim Team.
In the large competition, Kamehameha Swim Club finished first, followed by Hawai‘i Swim Club, and Kona Aquatics.
Hawai‘i Swim Club took the large division’s female contest and the Lahaina Swim Club won the female competition for the small division.
Kamehameha Swim Club triumphed in the boys division for the large division and the Kona Dolphins won the boys contest in the small division.
