Public facilities fees
A recent remark by a Mr. R. Stauber on a suggestion to close the Wailua Golf Course sounds like it describes a malihini non-golfer and a stay-at-home frustrated individual. It’s like saying, “I do not swim or surf so close all beaches — no profit there!” Unlike facilities like parks, tennis or basketball courts, etc. green fees are charged all golfers to help in the operation of our golf course — some of the money goes into the General Fund. Although we do not show pluses all the time, it serves as a valuable recreational project for our citizens as well as for economics in drawing visitors. Our government operates on a deficit budget most of the years — do we shut it down? A lotta people do not drive cars but are willing to help pay for road maintenance, etc. The road leading to a Mr. Stauber’s area shows no income — do we close it also or put toll charges? Hawai‘i is a very unique place with a lot of Aloha and tolerance for all people — do not ruin it! An afterthought: Mr. Stauber, kindly take up golfing — you’ll live happier and longer.

Christmas concerts
Our Island has so many beautiful inspiring events occurring! Recently, we were invited to attend a special Xmas program being presented at King’s Chapel in ‘Ele‘ele. Because an employee at Kaua‘i High School had invited us, we had a special interest in attending. Little did we realize what a professional presentation this would be! The talent so obvious from the musical abilities, the scenery, the costumes, the overall professionalism was overwhelming! My concern is why this was only presented in a small theater with such a small attendance. I wish everyone on the Island could have witnessed this production. There were so many young people involved and I know they had to have spent hours and hours of practice.
