KALAHEO — Aiko Grande finished with 11 points to lead On Fire to a 53-24 domination of the Waimea B&G girls Tuesday night as the county’s 14 Under Girls Basketball took place despite the steady rain that pelted the roof of the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Previously, the game scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16 had to be re-scheduled due to condensation on the gym floor caused by rain prevented the girls from playing.
Those two games, featuring the Comets tangling with On Fire, and the Waimea B&G taking on Wailua A will be played on Wednesday night, Dec. 29 starting at 6:30 p.m. Brandi Gomes added nine points to the On Fire victory with Kierra Barba and Krystle Pasadao each finishing with six points. Sanoe Keliinoi chipped in four, Joanna Andres had three, and pairs from Kori Sakamoto and Ashlyn Ubongen rounded out the victory. Coach Billy Ramos was pleased with On Fire’s performance against Waimea, the coach, along with some of the players anticipating a closer game than what materialized. “The girls played well, tonight,” Ramos said. “Aiko Grande had a great game under the boards, and everyone played well.”
Natalie Mata topped the Waimea B&G scoring with 13 points followed by Jaime Jacinto adding five markers. Kayla Werner and Chaelyn Briones each finished with a pair to round out the Waimea scorebooks.
The Cadiente sisters, Kelsey and Kathleen teamed up to score 24 points to lead the Comets to a 42-16 showing over Wailua B in the nightcap. Kelsey’s hustle at the point proved invaluable to the Comets as she not only was able to receive the rebound passes, but personally generated numerous turnovers. Kelsey finished with 13 points in the win.
Kathleen followed with 11 points with Tristen Rosare, Kira Taylon, Jamie Moriano, and Lauren James each adding a pair in the win. Alyssa Carvalho led Wailua B with a pair from threepointland as the girls in green exploded for 14 of their game-total 16 points in the second half, Carvalho leading the squad’s most productive period with six of their eight-point total in the fifth.
But, the 18-2 halftime deficit was too much to overcome.
Lynsi Nakamura and Kira Kupihea each finished with four points, and a pair from Victoria Tuttle rounded out the Wailua effort.
