KAPA‘A — If the Warriors and Menehune played from the third through the fifth inning, Kapa‘a would win 1-0, but unfortunately for the girls in green, the game started from the first inning.
The Menehune jumped on the Warriors for eight runs in the first inning and tacked on 10 more in the second stanza for an 18-2 win. Kapa‘a added a run in the fifth to make the final tally, 18-3 in favor of the Menehune last night at the Kapa‘a Ballpark. The 10-run rule came into effect, limiting play to just five innings.
Cassie Koerte picked up the win for Waimea, by pitching five strong innings. Kapa‘a pitcher Chasarae Laboguen pitched the entire game, but from the start, the game was all Waimea. Kodi Oyama started things off with an RBI single, scoring Melissa Moreno, then Oyama crossed the plate herself, on an error. Jessica Rita continued to push the runs over for Waimea with an RBI single and Rita scored a few minutes later, thanks to an RBI single from Cheri Kua.
Moreno’s second at-bat of the inning was a shot deep into the outfield for a 2-run inside the park homerun, scoring Kua. The score after one inning was 8-0 in favor of Waimea.
Kapa‘a answered with one run in its half of the inning, as Shantel Wong’s RBI double scored Stephanie Kawamura.
Waimea continued to put the hurt on the Warriors with 10 more runs in the second inning, thanks to Oyama’s HR, Koerte’s 2-RBI single, Moreno’s RBI single, Moani Durant’s RBI single, and Daelene Perreira’s 2-RBI double. After the dust cleared in the Waimea half of the second, it was 18-1.
Both pitchers were steady from the third inning on, allowing just one run between the two. The final run came on an RBI single by Kapa‘a’s Mele Tongamoa, scoring Laboguen for the 18-3 final score.
