DENVER – Fresno State center Mustaga Al-Sayyad has been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the week for Dec. 6-12.
A senior from Khartoum, Sudan, Al-Sayyad averaged 20.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and four blocks for the Bulldogs in a pair of wins. He opened the week with 18 points, six rebounds, and four blocks in a 71-68 win at USC, and followed it up Saturday by scoring 22 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and blocking four more shots in a win over Sacramento State.
It is Al-Sayyad’s first career WAC Player of the Week award.
University of Hawai‘i’s junior forward Julian Sensley was also nominated for the weekly honor.
