A sweet idea

Nibble a bite-sized Spa chocolate from Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier. Wash it down with a glass of red wine. And you’re on the way to the fountain of youth.
The Spa candy box boasts of ingredients “linked to improved cardiovascular health, lowered risk for certain types of cancer, a reduction in body weight and a slowing of the aging process.” An entire health plan in a candy box.
But watch out for the fine print. The study the cardiovascular claims are based on was funded by Mars Inc. And Bissinger’s logic is a little cockeyed. It says that people who reward themselves with one 54-calorie chocolate might be more inclined to stick with a good diet and exercise plan. Our bet is that people who reward themselves with one 54-calorie chocolate are likely to reward themselves with two or three or four 54-calorie chocolates, then to skip the exercise plan and jump straight to the Bordeaux.
