LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School’s varsity soccer squads got off to good starts yesterday at Vidinha Stadium.
The boys in red managed to keep Kapa‘a off the scoreboard thanks to great defensive plays by Kaleo Baxter and Chad Naganuma. Kaua‘i went on to win the KIF soccer opener 1-0.
Goalie Micah Young was able to stave off any attempts with numerous saves.
The Red Raider girls also found the right stuff for the win over Kapa‘a 3-0.
Emma Makepa-Foley scored the first goal for Kaua‘i, Megan Vento came up with the second score, and Kristen Shim’s free kick netted the third and final score.
In the junior varsity ranks, the Kaua‘i High School girls shutout the Warriors 5-0.
Tiffany Ikeda-Simao led the Red Raider attack with two goals. Also helping out with one score each, were Jamilee Jimenez, Nicole Fujimoto, and Michelle Kato. The JV Warrior boys got the win over Kaua‘i 2-0. No goal report was submitted.
Kaua‘i travels to Hanapepe on Thursday to face Waimea in a varsity-only contest.
