Kamehameha and Campbell were the talk of the town on Friday night as they both took home state football titles. Kamehameha, the Division I First Hawaiian Bank State Football champs clamped down on defense all night and had to rally from a 7-0 halftime deficit to a 28-7 win. Campbell went ahead from the start and never looked back in a 28-7 win over Iolani for the Division II state championship at Aloha Stadium. Kaua‘i has two connections to the state title winners: 1) Kamehameha features three Kaua‘i-born players in Sherwin “Kaleo” Perez, Vaughn Meatoga, and Drew Ueno. 2) Kaua‘i nearly beat Campbell in first round action and some may say it could’ve been Kaua‘i holding up the state division II trophy, instead of the Sabers, but we’ll never know!
