The Garden Island newspaper and Zonta Club of Kauai have again teamed up to try to make the holidays brighter for our needy senior citizens, children and families. The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund has been helping Kaua‘i families for over 30 years. Letters are sent to island agencies such as Easter Seals and the Agency on Elderly Affairs seeking referrals of clients who are most in need. Last year, the community’s generous donations helped 153 adults and 140 children. This year, even more requests for assistance have been received. The Christmas Fund volunteers use monetary donations to purchase gift certificates and gift cards that are distributed to families and individuals.
Because of the logistical problems in distributing donated items, only monetary donations can be accepted.
Parents could use some food for their young family
Jason and Jasmine have worked hard to make a better life for their family and provide good education for their children.
Since moving from the Marshall Islands, Jason and Jasmine have worked hard at improving their life — they have gone from being homeless to recently acquiring permanent housing.
Jason works full-time and Jasmine is currently looking for work now that their new baby is a couple of months old.
Because their children were not born in the U.S., they are not eligible for food stamps. The family would really appreciate food items especially during the holiday season.
New clothing for her sons is all this single mom wants
Tammy is a single mother of two young boys. She is proud to have recently acquired a full-time job, which in turn has given her a huge amount of confidence.
The progression towards self-sufficiency will be rough but she has a new attitude and better perspective on life and its responsibilities and challenges.
Tammy’s sons, Shawn (5) and Nate (2) are growing rapidly. She would appreciate some new clothing for the boys this holiday season.
Christmas dinner and clothes will help ease loss of children
Jonah (12) and his younger brother Oliver (9) live with their mother, Wendy, who is a single parent. Wendy works full time and is still grieving for the recent loss of her two other children. A Christmas dinner and clothes for the boys would help to brighten the holiday season for this family who has suffered such tragic loss.
