Malia Manuel and Zach Arreola were the headliners at the Hawaiian Surfing Federation (HSF)/Y.M.C.A. of Kaua‘i’s second contest at Pine Trees in Hanalei this past weekend.
The Kai Kane sponsored event saw Manuel and Arreola sweep two events, Manuel won the girls and menehune divisions and Arreola took the Garden Island Brotherhood (G.I.B.) 4-A Open and men’s open contests. Manuel beat out the boys in the menehune competition, including second and third place finishers, Keola Carreira and Christian Graham.
Carreira also finished second in the junior division, behind winner Kalani Martin. Sebastian Zeitz got third-place. Behind Manuel in the girls contest, were Shaye Donnelly and Kristen Steiner. Arreola was followed by Sebastian Zietz and Kyle Ramey in the G.I.B. 4-A Open competition.
Bear Bailey fought off Aaron Swanson and Noa Espirito in the boys contest and Drew Irons and Robert Hennessy finished behind Arreola in the men’s open division.
Kristen Steiner beat out Erika Steiner and Bethany Hamilton for the girls longboard win.
In the bodyboard competitions, Kyle Mira won over Noah Murray and Travis Smith in the boys contest and Travis Smith came back to win the juniors competition over Cory Mira and James Gilleran. Complete results can be found on the scoreboard on page B2.
