Kaua‘i senior quarterback Kekoa Crowell and Kapa‘a senior linebacker Amini Taufoou were recently named KIF players of the year, Crowell for offense and Taufoou for defense.
Crowell completed his senior campaign with impressive numbers. He led the Red Raiders to the state division II semifinals, along with two consecutive KIF titles.
Taufoou proved to be a monster on the defensive side of the ball. His size, speed, and quickness made it almost impossible to escape his presence.
Kaua‘i coach Keli‘i Morgado was chosen as KIF football coach of the year, after another KIF title run in 2004.
Three Kaua‘i seniors headed the all-star linemen list with Bronson Bacarro, who’s considered by coaches to be one of the best centers in the state, Pat Kua, and Ivan Kuapahi. Kapa‘a seniors Moses Punzal and Tyrus Tupou were the other two all-star linemen.
Kaua‘i earned three spots on the receiving corps with seniors Kevin Cadiente and Chad Lopez, along with junior Jett Jasper. Waimea senior Justin Estes was also chosen as an all-star receiver.
Bronson Yadao, a Kapa‘a senior busted through linemen throughout the season and earned all-star recognition at runningback. Crowell took the quarterback all-star honors and Estes picked up kicking and punting all-star accolades. Waimea senior Aina Emayo earned the special teams all-star spot and Kapa‘a senior Isaac Miyashiro grabbed utility honors.
On the defensive line Kuapahi, Waimea senior Fia Moe, Kaua‘i junior Preston Ramson, and Kapa‘a senior Stetson Thronas picked up all-star recognition.
Kaua‘i juniors Raymond Jerves and Sean Thompson, along with Taufoou got all-star honors as linebackers.
All-star defensive backs included Kaua‘i seniors Lance Okasaki and Alan Satta, Emayo, and Miyashiro.
Kaua‘i senior Brian Rodriguez had a stellar year on the field and earned defensive utility all-star honors.
