Host Waimea High School was the only Kaua‘i team to post a victory in the opening day of the Waimea High School Thanksgiving Softball Invitational on Thursday at Waimea Canyon Park.
The Menehune defeated Kamehameha-Hilo, 4-1, but fell to ILH powerhouse Iolani, 12-1 in their second game.
Kaua‘i High School tied Mililani, 4-4, but Sacred Hearts managed to edge the Red Raiders, 3-2 in their second contest. Kapa‘a failed to get a win on Thursday, with losses to Hilo, 6-2 and Kamehameha, 13-0.
In other matches, University beat Kaimuki, 8-3, Pearl City and Baldwin tied at 0-0, Pearl City defeated Hilo, 5-0, Kaimuki beat Kamehameha-Hilo, 5-1, Sacred Hearts edged Maui, 7-3, University squeaked by Iolani, 3-2, and Kamehameha and Baldwin tied at 0-0. Results of Thursday’s contests are in the scoredboard on page B2.
The championship round happens today starting at 9 a.m. The championship game should start at around 2 p.m. at Waimea Canyon Park.
A fellowship dinner is scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m.
