On Sunday, November 7, 150 health-conscious walkers and runners participated in the 2nd Annual Old Koloa Sugar Mill Walk/Run. For the second year, the Annual Old Koloa Sugar Mill Walk/Run was a very successful event, and helped raise money for wellness events at Wilcox Health. This year, participants had a choice of distance: 5K, 10K, and 10 miles.
The course started at Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa via the bypass road to the sugar mill and back. Race Director, Pam Kruse of Fit Bodies said, “This was another successful partnership with Wilcox Health Foundation. The course is beautiful, the turnout better than ever, and the support from the community and businesses very generous. Thanks especially to Debi Leyva at Wilcox Health Foundation for the over-all coordination, and the many volunteers that worked so hard to make this event happen and support a good cause.”
Proceeds from the race go to Wilcox Health Foundation and are allocated for health and wellness programs at Wilcox.
All participants received a free t-shirt again featuring “The Old Koloa Sugar Mill,” an original watercolor by local artist, Helen Mehl, who created the art expressly for the event, and who is also a volunteer at Wilcox Health. Following the race, awards went to overall male and female finishers, and medals went to age group winners. Participants enjoyed a healthy breakfast and there was entertainment by Albert Genozia’s band, “Vicious Styles Hawai‘i” and door prize drawings for massages, dinners, athletic gear, outdoor activities and more.
