Ohana Kauai
It is sad and ironic that the people we elect to office (the council and the Mayor) are now spending thousands of OUR tax dollars on legal counsel to try to make the Ohana Kauai Charter Amendment illegal after over 13,000 Kauaians voted to make it law and get immediate tax relief.
Remember who to vote for in two years.

Once in a while, I drop in on public hearings held by the Planning Commission. Here are a few examples of statements I have heard made by various commissioners (duly recorded on videotape and broadcast on Ho‘ike):
1. Recently, a commissioner read from a letter received from a local resident, then said, “Woof! Woof!” Later in the same hearing, he again said “Woof!” in reference to the letter.
2. At a hearing earlier this year, a commissioner referred to anyone who advocates a moratorium on development as a “Communist” or “Socialist.”
3. Although commissioners have expressed disdain toward any citizen who uses the “Not in my back yard” objection to a particular proposed zoning change, one of the female commissioners stated in another public hearing, “I wouldn’t want that in my back yard” (referring to a proposed cell-phone tower).
My question is, with such blatant attitudes towards citizens and such friendly attitudes toward developers, how do these people manage to hold such positions of power on Kaua‘i?
