On Saturday, the first game of the day pitted the Koloa “Westside” Rams against the Lihu‘e Patriots (PW).
The first half of play ended in a scoreless tie with both teams being unable to move the ball into the end zone, the offenses on both sides tried valiantly to score but because of the tough defense, neither teams were able to cross the goal line during one full half of play.
The offensive plays by Lihu‘e were mostly ground churning runs, but still no score. The second half started with Koloa taking the ball and trying to make something happen, but the Westside Rams were forced to give the ball up and this went on with the Lihu‘e Patriots who also had to punt after being unable to move the ball. The scoreless tie was broken with 0:43 seconds left on the clock in the third quarter when Cameron Largusa broke free on a 45 yard run. The extra point kick was by Kalen Kimura and it was good. The score was now Lihu‘e Patriots (PW)-8 and the Koloa “Westside” Rams-0.
In the fourth quarter, there was more defense between both teams, as the ball moved between the 50 yard line and the 20 yard line.
With the clock running down in the fourth quarter, Koloa’s Branden Scovel passed to Kaulana Wa‘alani-Arroyo on a 35 yard pass for the score, the kick by Ross Ozaki failed and the score was Koloa “Westside” Rams-6 and the Lihu‘e Patriots (PW)-8.
The score would remain the same and the game would end with Lihu‘e Patriots (PW)-8, Koloa Westside Rams-6. The Lihu‘e Patriots (PW) are all alone in first place in this division. The Koloa Westside Rams are in second place, followed by the Kapa‘a Eagles (PW) and the Northshore Na Ali‘i (PW).
The second game of the day at 10 a.m. was between the Lihu‘e Patriot (JPW) and the Northshore Na Ali‘i (JPW). About this time the rain started to come down and this would be a “mud” bowl.
The Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW) scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone when Na Ali‘i’s quarterback fumbled. Jumping on the ball in the end zone was Isaiah Ramboyan.
The extra point was run in by the quarterback Travis Koga, making the score Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW)-7, Na Ali‘i-O. The second touchdown for Lihu‘e was by Austin Oshiro who scored from 15 yards out and the extra point was good making the score Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW)- 14 and Na Ali‘i (JPW)-O.
The next score was by Brian Haz of the Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW) who recovered a fumble on the 35 yard line of Na Ali‘i and ran the ball in for the score, the extra point was run in by Kalen Aquino, making the score Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW)-20 and the Northshore Na Ali‘i’s (JPW)-O.
With 7:28 on the clock in the fourth quarter Lihu‘e’s Kalen Aquino scored on a three yard run, the kick for the extra point was no good. Score at this point was Na Ali‘i (JPW)-O and Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW)-27.
The rain came and the game ended with the Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW) winning with a score of Lihu‘e Patriots (JPW)-27 and Northshore Na Ali‘i (JPW)-O.
The third game of the day, in the rain was between the Northshore Na Ali‘i (M) and the Lihu‘e Patriots (M).
The first score came with 4:04 on the clock in the first quarter on a pass from QB Matt Koyama to Chad Koga, pass was for 6 yards. The extra point was kicked by Pono Matthews, point after was good making the score, Lihu‘e Patriots (M)-8 and Northshore Na Ali‘i (M)-O. The 50 yard line was the muddy area of the field and this is where the teams settled in for the defensive struggle. The next score came on a 38 yard scamper by Pono Matthews. Extra point try by Matthews failed and the score was now Lihu‘e-14 and Northshore-0. In the second quarter a 21 yard pass from Matt Koyama to Chad Koga increased the lead. This score came with 4:40 on the clock. The extra point attempt failed and the score was Lihu‘e Patriots (M)-20 and the Northshore Na Ali‘i (M)-O. Pono Matthews scored on a 31 yard touchdown around the left end of the Lihu‘e line. This score came with 2:17 in the second quarter and the extra point by Pono Matthews was good making the score Lihu‘e Patriots (M)-28 and Northshore Na Ali‘i (M)-O
In the second half the scoring continued by the Lihu‘e Patriots (M) Donovan Refamonte scored on a 45 yard run, and the extra point was no good. Score Lihu‘e 32, Northshore Na Ali‘i (M)-O. Another score by Pono Matthews for 72 yards, made the score Llhu‘e Patriots (M)-40 and Na Ali‘i (M)-O. The game ended with the score, Lihu‘e Patriot (M)-40 and Northshore Na Ali‘i (M)-O. The next game that was played was between the Kekaha Chargers and the Koloa Raiders. This game has bearing on the season and on the Division 11 championship game.
The first score of the game came in the first quarter of play on a safety by the Kekaha Chargers who tackled Koloa’s quarterback in the end zone, jumping on the quarterback to make sure he didn’t go anywhere was of Kekaha, Jonah Cy-Pascua. Score now, Kekaha Chargers-2 Koloa Raiders-0.
The first quarter ended with the score, Koloa Raiders-0 and the Kekaha Chargers-2. The second quarter started with Kekaha Chargers on offense with 75 yards to pay dirt.
With 5:28 on the clock in the second quarter, Hilton Delima-Kamai made the score from the two yard line. The extra point kick failed and the score was now Koloa Raiders-6 and the Kekaha Chagers-2. For the remainder of the quarter both teams played in the mud.
The next touchdown came on a 9 yard pass from Ceria-Lux to Reggie Vigilia, with 25 seconds left on the clock. The extra point was a pass play that was intercepted in the end zone, the attempt failed and the score was Koloa Radiers-12 and the Kekaha Chargers-2. The next score came with 4:45 on the clock in the third quarter; touchdown was by Hilton Delima-Kamai on an 8 yard run. The extra point was no good and the score was now Koloa Raiders- 18 and Kekaha Chargers-2.
The game ended with the score Koloa Raiders-18 and the Kekaha Chargers-2.
The last game of the day between the Kekaha Panthers Junior Pee Wee’s and the Koloa Packers Junior Pee Wee’s was canceled due to heavy rains, this game maybe made up later on during the season.
Sunday’s games were played under sunny skies at the Hanapepe Stadium. The first game of the day was between the Kapa‘a Eagles PW’s and the Northshore Na Ali‘i PW.
Game started with a lot of mud although the sun was out. There was no scoring for three quarters of play, until B.J. Aiwohi broke into the clear and went 55 yards for the lone Kapa‘a Eagles touchdown. Aiwohi score came with 8:56 left on the clock in the third quarter. The score was the only score of the ball game.
Northshore Na Ali‘i (PW) attempted to make it into the end zone, but was “stuck” in the mud, their primary back, Darren Taylor was stopped and was slipping and sliding in the mud. The game ended with the score of Na Ali‘i (PW)-O and the Kapa‘a Eagles (PW)-6. The next game of the day was between the Kapa‘a Eagles (JPW) and the Hanapepe Colts (JPW). This game was also a mud bog, the plays were between the 30 yard lines, and most of the action was in the middle of the field which had the most mud.
The action in this game was played in the trenches, with both teams making attempts for pay dirt but rejected by the tough defensive plays. Finally in the fourth quarter of the game with 9:49 on the clock, the Hanapepe Colts (JPW) broke the scoreless tie. Clifton Callejo, took a reverse and ran 20 yards for the score, the point after was kicked by Dallas Correa for the Hanapep’e Colts (JPW), point after was good making the score Hanapepe Colts (JPW)-8 and the Kapa‘a Eagles (JPW)-O.
The Kapa‘a Eagles made some strong goal line stands against the Colts, keeping them out of the end zone. The game would end with the score of Hanapepe Colts-8 and the Kapa‘a Eagles-0.
The final game of the day was played between the Hanapepe Colts (M) and the Kapa‘a Eagles (M). The first score of the day came on a 7 yard run by running back James Delos Reyes of the Colts. This touchdown came with 8:57 in the second quarter of the game. The extra point kick by Delos Reyes was good and the score stood at Hanapepe Colts-8 and the Kapa‘a Eagles-0. With 34 seconds left on the clock, Hanapepe got back on the score board on a 10 yard scamper by quarter back Allen-Michael Gaspar. The extra point kick by James Delos-Reyes was good and the score was now Hanapepe Colts (M)-16 and the Kapa‘a Eagles (M)-O. The half ended with that score. More results in Friday’s edition.
