Albert “Big Al” Ah You Kon, Jr. of Anahola, died Nov. 4, 2004, at Straub Hospital, Honolulu, at the age of 61.
Born March 10, 1943, in Lihu‘e, he was a security officer. He was known as the “Home Run King” of Kaua‘i by his many ballplayer, golfing and dart-playing friends.
He is survived by his wife: Arlene Kon of Kapa‘a; one daughter: Alice Marie Wieltz of Lihu‘e; one son: Jason Kalani Byrge of Denver, Colo., one granddaughter: Priscilla Wieltz of Lihu‘e; three sisters: Helen Sa of Anahola, Alice Kaahu of Honolulu,. Sweetie (Bobby) Azevedo of Honolulu; one sister-in-law: Roseanne Kon of Honolulu; two step sons: Chas Lono (Charlene) McGee of Kapa‘a and Anthony “Toa” (Laurie) Hepa of Kapa‘a; five stepdaughters: Toni Puanani McGee of Honolulu, Velene McGee of Kalaheo, Tracie (Mark) Furumoto of Kapa‘a, Billie Mapuana (Vailaau) Vai of Las Vegas, and Lainie Kainoa (Adam) Wojax of Las Vegas, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and grea grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa where services will be celebrated at 8 p.m. Cremation to follow. Scattering of ashes will take place at Aliomanu beach on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m.
Aloha attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
