Debbie Ann Puahau‘oli Kanei of Anahola, died Oct. 31, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 39.
A women’s health educator for Malama Pono, she was born Dec. 30, 1964, in Honolulu.
She is survived by her husband James “Kimo” Kanei III of Anahola; three sons: Sheldon Kanei of Kapa‘a, Tyson Keali‘i Kanei of Anahola and Hina Kanei of Anahola; one daughter: Hokunani Kanei of Anahola; mother: Lucille Rogers of Kealia; three brothers: Solomon “Kawika” (Malia) Rogers, III of Kealia, Steven “Kaipo” Rogers of Las Vegas, and Saul Kekoa Rogers of Kapa‘a; sister-in-law: Lei (Haku) Rivera; grandson Chay Ramirez; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and hanai ohana.
The family asks that people bring a lei of aloha for “Deb.”
Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 5, at Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 3 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Services will be celebrated at 6 p.m.; cremation to follow. On Saturday, Nov. 6, at Anahola Beach Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., blessings and scattering of ashes will follow in the bay.
Aloha attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
James Gerardo
James Gerardo of Hanama‘ulu, died at his home at the age of 80.
Born July 9, 1924, in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was an electrician for Kauai Electric.
He is survived by eight children: Joyce (Terry) Daligdig of Wailua Homesteads, James K. Gerardo of Hanama‘ulu, Alison (Clayton) Silva of Kapa‘a, Brenda (Reynaldo) Coloma of Hanama‘ulu, Alan (Rose) Gerardo of California, Brian (Shanell) Gerardo of Kapa‘a, Marylyn (Jerry) Gerardo of Hanama‘ulu, and Kathy (Matthew) Louis of ‘Oma‘o; four brothers; two sisters; five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Bill. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Hideko Sasaki
Hideko Hamano Sasaki of Lawai, died at home on Oct. 24, 2004 at the age of 72.
Born in Lawai, on Feb. 10, 1932, she was a licensed practical nurse with Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, William Sasaki; son, Steven (Brenda) Sasaki of Kalaheo; two daughters, Lori (Stanley) Valoroso and Robbin (Neal) Matsuyama both of Kapa‘a; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kunie Kiyabu, Harue Chinen and Fusayo Yabuno, all of Honolulu, O‘ahu; sister-in-law, Elfreda Hamano of Koloa; numerous nieces and nephews. Service were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Severo Cole
Severo Jr. Tobalado Cole of Maili, O‘ahu died Oct. 17, 2004, at the age of 58.
Born on Aug. 26, 1946, in Honolulu and he was an alumni of Kapa`a High School, 1964. He retired as a bio-med engineer from S. Cole Associates. He owned/managed the company and commuted to Kaua‘i and the other islands, including Guam to repair and maintain bio-medical electronic equipment.
Severo enjoyed flying a single prop Cessna, surfing, scuba diving, volleyball, church soft ball and singing and jamming on the guitar and ukulele during family gatherings.
A Vietnam veteran during 1968-69, Severo served in the Air Force, Air National Guard and Army National Guard for a total of 22 years. He will be buried with military honors at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Hawaiian Memorial Park, Kaneohe, Oahu on Monday, Nov. 8.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley Teresa Granger Cole, a medical assistant at Kaiser Permanente, formerly of Hudson Falls, New York, and three children, Christian Cole of Honolulu, Lora-Ly Cole of Maili, Devin Cole of Phoenix, Arizona; and two grandchildren.
Brothers, half brothers and step brother are: Anthony (Trudy) Cole of Honea Path, South Carolina; David (Debbie) Cole of Ewa Beach; Twayne (Sherry) Cole of Anahola; Twyus Peahu of Kapa`a; Ron Panzo of Maui; and Mike Panzo of Honolulu.
Sisters and half sisters are : Cyrila (Jim) Pycha of Princeville; Marilyn (Mark) Mohler of Kapa`a; Twila (Chuck) Dependahl of Redwood City, Calif.; and Twanda Cole of Honolulu.
Parents are: Theodorica Tobalado (Jerry) Panzo of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu; step mom Sylvia Fong (Severo, Sr., deceased) Cole – (Sam, deceased) Peahu of Anahola. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service praising God and giving Him the honor and glory, as requested by Severo, will be held at Maili Bible Church located on the coast of Waianae, O‘ahu on Saturday, Nov. 6, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. with a reception to follow. 87-138 Gilipake St., Waianae, HI 96792
