Zook fired
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Ron Zook was fired Monday after two-plus years and a stack of embarrassments on and off the field, satisfying a growing groundswell for his ouster that began the day he replaced Steve Spurrier.
Zook will finish out the season while athletic director Jeremy Foley and school president Bernie Machen search for another coach.
The Gators are 20-13 under Zook with four games left — that’s just 14 losses fewer than Spurrier had in 12 seasons.
Zook’s latest debacle, a 38-31 loss to Mississippi State, sealed his fate and brought jubilation among those in Gator Nation who turned www.fireronzook.com into their Internet home page. The site posted this message Monday: “It’s happening! It’s happening! Oh my God it’s happening!”
Spurrier’s return would be welcomed in Gainesville.
Foley planned to talk with Spurrier soon but said he won’t discuss the opening with coaches with jobs until after the season.
Seth Morales dominates rainy R/C races
Despite a short rain delay, Sunday, Seth Morales, 13, dominated the 4WD Nitro Sedan B division to take the overall win at the latest Garden Isle R/C races held at the Big Kmart parking lot.
The Sedan A division race proved intense with racers trading leads with Reggie Aribon topping the trading.
Craig Arzadon topped the 4WD Nitro Sedan C division.
The next race will be held Nov. 7 at the Wailua off-road track starting at 10 a.m.

Sooners and Utes move up in BCS
Oklahoma and Utah moved into premium positions in the Bowl Championship Series standings Monday.
The Sooners are in second place, jumping ahead of Miami after the BCS standings debuted last week with Oklahoma surprisingly in third.
Southern California remains in first place with a grade of .9843. Oklahoma’s grade is .9325 and Miami is now third at .9239.
The top two teams in the final BCS standings will meet in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 4.
Utah is now sixth, a position that would guarantee the Utes a spot in one of the other three big-money bowls if they can hold on to it.
Crews recover 10 bodies at Hendrick crash site
PATRICK SPRINGS, Va. — Crews recovered the bodies of all 10 people killed in the crash of a Hendrick Motorsports plane that was carrying family and friends of one of NASCAR’s top syndicates.
Federal investigators said they did not know what caused the Beech 200 King Air to crash Sunday en route from Concord, N.C., to Martinsville Speedway, about 7 miles east of the crash site on Bull Mountain in the foothills of the Appalachians.
The crash killed all 10 people aboard, including the son, brother and two nieces of owner Rick Hendrick.
