LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i wide receiver Kevin Cadiente played the game of his life, as the Red Raiders celebrated their homecoming with a win on the field over the Kapa‘a Warriors, 28-0. The Red Raiders struck early and took it to the Warriors, who came into the game with some confidence after tying the Waimea Menehune last week.
With 7:45 to go in the first, Kaua‘i quarterback Kekoa Crowell’s magical arm connected with the soft hands of Cadiente for the first score, a 14 yard TD. Frank Speetjens nailed his first PAT of the contest to make the score, 7-0. The score was possible thanks to a Crowell to Cadiente 25 yard connection and a Kapa‘a pass interference call.
A long pass from Crowell to Chad Lopez set up Kaua‘i’s second score in the first, a 3-yard TD run by Cadiente. Speetjens connected on his second PAT, which put the Red Raiders up, 14-0. In the second quarter, Kaua‘i’s Brad Correa stomped a Kapa‘a drive with a sack and late in the second, the Warriors threatened again, but a holding penalty halted another drive.
The Crowell/Cadiente combination hooked up again with 9:32 to go in the third on a 52-yard TD.
Speetjens was successful on his third PAT attempt, for a 21-0 Kaua‘i lead.
Late in the fourth, Kaua‘i sophomore Justyn Perreira intercepted an Ekolu Allianic pass and took it 24 yards to paydirt. Speetjens sailed in his fourth PAT for the 28-0 advantage.
