WAILUA – Coach Gwen Tamura’s KSC-North in the Kaua‘i Soccer Association (KSA) Girls Under 16/18 division had the tough schedule over the weekend.
That tough schedule took its toll as the KSC-North girls in yellow managed a 3-3 stalemate against Motiv-8 Kupono on Sunday before dropping two to Kevin Devitt’s KSC-East girls, 8-4, and 4-1.
Earlier in the weekend, the KSC-North was victimized by the Chicks Who Rip, 6-1 on Saturday.
The Lihu‘e Lightning also played a tough schedule with games on Saturday and Sunday, the Lightning tying KSC-Imua, 4-4 on Saturday before overtaking Motiv-8 Po‘okela, 5-2 on Sunday.
Defense was the name of the game in the Motiv-8-Ha‘aheo (U-10) LSC-Tornadoes contest as the girls in red capitalized on defensive lapses to take a 4-0 win over the boys in blue.
Makana Fujimoto, quiet and effective on defense, was like a cat with two quick goals to lead the Ha‘aheo win on Sunday.
Caitlyn Rapozo iced the victory with a goal that dribbled past the Tornadoes’ goalie in the second half, that goal coming on the heels of Fujimoto’s second goal that came in the second half.
Mia Cabulisan insured the victory with a final second-half goal from the rightside.
Defensively, the boys in blue were tough, playing close quarter defense on the sometimes taller girls in red, but that height proved the decisive factor as the Tornado forwards were limited in their shot-on-goal attempts by an equally tenacious Ha‘aheo defense.
Of note for the Tornadoes were efforts shown by Thomas Simpkins in his forward position as well as at goalie. Marcus Brown had some nice balls as did Lucas Gushikuma, Hershel Ah Puck, and Eric Rivera-Medeiros.
Kalia Mayer notched two goals to lead the KSC-East 4-1 win over the KSC-North in the GU-14 game. Brandi Gomes and Stephany Foster each fired goals in that win with Dakota Barnett preventing the shutout for KSC-North.
This weekend’s KSA games are all scheduled for the Wailua Houselots Park.
