In the din of the Pop Warner games going on Saturday, there was nothing to tell anyone it was a special day.
But, for Sherri Ephan, head coach for the Hanapepe Colts’ cheer squad, a lei was the only indication of something special.
Ephan, who heads up a squad of 24 JPW (Junior Pee Wee) and seven Midget cheerleaders, said they were in the midst of getting ready for the island finals which is scheduled for Oct. 17 at Waimea High School.
Although start times haven’t been set, the competition will be broken into two parts, the Midgets and the JPW due to the limited seating and high turnout.
People are asked to get their tickets early because the event is always a sellout event.
As for Ephan’s birthday, it was her wish to spend it with the girls she loves.
