LIHU‘E — Just like the Energizer Bunny, the Kaua‘i High School JV football squad just keeps on going and winning with last night’s dominating 35-0 debacle over Kapa‘a High School.
Leading the Red Raider charge was Micah Alayvilla, who scored two touchdowns.
The Red Raider runningback started things off at the midpoint of the first quarter with a 35 yard TD run for a 7-0 Kaua‘i lead with Kainoa Lemke’s PAT.
Lemke also used his steady arm with a 38 yard TD strike to Bradley Semana, who made a nice juggling catch. Lemke nailed his second PAT to give the Red Raiders the 14-0 advantage.
Kapa‘a’s defense stiffened in the second quarter, as Coty Salausa managed to sack Lemke and kept the Red Raider running game at bay.
At the six minute mark, Kapa‘a’s Hatch Brenners recovered a Kaua‘i fumble to stop a Red Raider drive.
However, after marching all the way to the five yard line of Kaua‘i, thanks to a long catch by Kahai Nakano, Kapa‘a wasn’t able to punch it in for the score, as the Red Raiders held the halftime lead, 14-0.
After a Lemke injury, Andrew Renaud took over and didn’t skip a beat with a long bomb to Jonathan Gebauer, which led to a 14 yard TD connection from Renaud to Skyler Ramson. Blake Gingerich’s PAT put Kaua‘i up 21-0.
Red Raider tail back, Alayvilla struck again with four minutes to go in the game with an 8 yard TD run, dodging two tackles to the left side of the Warrior line. Gingerich’s second PAT gave Kaua‘i a 28-0 lead.
The Red Raiders weren’t done, as Kalei Kaauwai picked off a Warrior pass and took it 68 yards for the score. Gingerich’s final PAT made the final score, 35-0 in favor of the Red Raiders.
Kaua‘i’s Adam Gusman contributed with a late INT.
