Hats off to Kymm Solchaga and those in the county Department of Water ‘ohana for hosting a great second Water Festival on Friday at Pua Loke (it’s a great place to have lunch!).
Rhoda Libre found time after her morning rush at the Nawiliwili Watershed Council booth so she could get footage (watch for it on ho‘ike?), and Ted Inouye and Lincoln Ching were helping students with the mathematical costs of water usage in the soil-conservation station. The event was so good, Dickie Chang (he wanted to know who was going to win on Friday night) and Bruce Smalling were there, and Jan Ten- Bruggencate found time to check out the activity following his trip to the Fern grotto, too. About the only person who was missing was Wanda Shibata. “Capt.” Zack Octavio came to check on Andy the Ambulance, and Kaua‘i Fire Department’s Dave Bukoski said, “gotta go help the dog,” as he went to help Sparky distribute rulers. Earlier in the day, Mary Jo Sweeney and Bernie DeCosta were playing tag trying to find each other at the Kaua‘i Community College health fair. KCC culinary arts helper Nicole Lucidarme is already working out the details of her entry into this year’s Coconut Festival. You gotta visit the event to check it out. In the meantime, she had to concoct some kim chee for the fried rice/teri beef combo that was on the menu Friday. Shari Amimoto was checking out some of the “cool” things in the bookstore (they got some neat new backpacks by Jansport), and even chef Clarence Nishi was able to get out of the kitchen to see how things were going in the dining room. OK -’nuff said.
It’s off to the Westside for volleyball!
