It’s must see football action tonight, as Kaua‘i High School (1-0) battles Waimea High School in their first match-up since the Red Raiders took the KIF crown from the Menehune.
Kaua‘i head coach Keli‘i Morgado has said that he expects Waimea to give his team all they’ve got, especially since the Red Raiders stole the KIF title last year from a Waimea squad that owned that crown for over 10 years.
But Waimea head coach Liko Perreira and his Menehune squad have Max Hadwin on their side. Hadwin transferred from Kaua‘i High School and is now the starting quarterback for Waimea.
Kekoa Crowell, Kaua‘i’s starting general, is waiting for that break out game after sub-par performances in the preseason and in the first KIF contest of the season against the Kapa‘a Warriors.
It’s Kaua‘i’s run and shoot offense versus the grind it out smash mouth style of Waimea. However, defense is the key for both squads.
Look for Waimea’s Eric Oroc, along with the Estes brothers, Justin and Kenny to shine on both sides of the field. On the Red Raider side, Brian Rodriguez, who mustered up 99 yards against Kapa‘a, will have to continue to be the run, in Kaua‘i’s run and shoot offense. Red Raider receivers, Jett Jasper and Kevin Cadiente will handle the heavy load of balls thrown at them by Crowell.
The early season advantage is on the line tonight at 7:35 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium, with JV action at 5 p.m.
