Statewide competition comes to Kaua‘i
Some of Hawaii’s finest cowgirls will travel to the CJM Country Stables in Poipu to challenge the Kauai girls in fast and furious rodeo competition.
The excitement is set for Sunday, September 19, beginning at 10 am with the Grand Opening Ceremony at the Third Annual State Championship Rodeo, The Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association began sponsorship of this community event three years ago as part of Kauai’s Aloha Week Festival Celebration. KAGRA is the largest women’s rodeo organization in the state, with over 50 members ranging in age from pre-teens to grandmothers.
Their goal is to promote the Paniolo culture with both visitors and residents alike and invite everyone to come see them in action.
Awards will be given for the best of the best in barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway and daily team roping, goat tying, steer undecorating and calf-mugging.
Admission is free, and there will be food and craft booths on the hillside overlooking the CJM arena (about a mile past the Hyatt Hotel).
Everyone is invited to bring the family and enjoy the excitement as some of Hawaii’s finest cowgirls compete for prizes, trophy saddles and belt buckles.
For more information, please call KAGRA President Nancy McMahon at 1-877-811-9218.
