WAIMEA — After the second set between the Kaua‘i and Waimea girls volleyball teams, it looked as though the Red Raiders would run away with the match, but Waimea stormed back to take the final sets to put them in the front seat in KIF girls volleyball. Waimea won the first set, 25-22, then Kaua‘i took the second set and the Menehune came from behind to win the third set, 25-23.
The Menehune were led by Nue Wong’s 14 kills and two aces. Robyn Arrington also pitched in with five kills, and Banana Kajiwara put down three kills and an ace.
The Red Raiders were paced by Kehau Judd with 10 kills and two aces, Tina Moger with eight kills and an ace, and Auika Muragin, along with Erin Fabro, who both got four kills each. Trisha Niau came up with two big aces for the Red Raiders.
Meanwhile, the Red Raider boys squad took control from the start and dominated the entire match. Kaua‘i won both sets, 25-13 and 25-14.
Futi Tavana led the Red Raider charge with 10 kills, three blocks, and two aces. Kevin Downing downed four balls and Michah Young smashed three kills. Justin McSheehy and Kaleo Baxter also notched three kills a piece.
