While there was no parade this year to mark the Kaua‘i’s week of the statewide Aloha Festival celebration, the event is continuing in grand fashion.
The Kaua‘i schedule of events kicked off on Aug. 21 with Ka Ho‘ola‘a O Na Ali‘i, or the Royal Court Investiture at the Kamokila Hawaiian Village in Wailua.
That protocol ceremony was followed by Hale Pule where the Court was received in traditional Hawaiian services at the Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church before the Court greeted the public at the Opening Ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency Po‘ipu on Thursday, Sept. 9. The lu‘au that followed was a prelude to yesterday’s day-long Ho‘olaule‘a at the Kukui GroveCenter Stage with an appearance by the Royal Court as well as a full slate of entertainment.
Remaining on the calendar of Aloha Festival events for Kaua‘i is the Lu‘au and International Pageant at Smith’s Tropical Gardens that will take place Monday from 5 p.m. Reservations are being taken at 821-6895. The Monday lu‘au will be followed by the Royal Lu‘au Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Radisson Kaua‘i Beach Resort starting at 5:15. For reservations, people are requested to call 335-LUAU.
The Court is to appear at the Mokihana Festival Group Auwana Hula Competition at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall on Friday, Sept. 24.
Friday, Oct. 15 is the final appearance of the 2004 Royal Court, at the Hyatt Regency’s Kaua‘i’s Hawaiiana Festival from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
