Llewellyn Young, Jr., also known as Uncle Lew, is retired from the Air Force, and holds degrees in Education and Business Administration.
He’s worked for St. Theresa’s School in Kekaha as a school bus driver since 2001, and has earned a reputation as one of the friendliness and helpful drivers on Kaua‘i.
Young is also a Red Cross Volunteer, and was honored for his kindness and accommodation given to disabled children while teaching in Germany, where he was stationed.
Parents compliment Young, saying “he’s very organized and clean, his bus is immaculate.” Others say “he goes the extra mile for kids ‘literally.'” Young works with his young riders to teach them about responsibility and other positive attributes while they ride to and from school. On Friday he leads his riders in singing “Aloha Friday” while cranking up the volume.
