Saying the confidence placed in him by voters of The Garden Island’s annual Best of Kauai event “obligates” him to try to do his “best work” on the air daily, Ron Wiley of KONG Radio Group thanked those who voted him best radio personality on the island.
Wiley, whose morning show on KQNG FM 93.5 is also among the most-listened to during that time slot, said he is “pleasantly surprised” that the number of people who took the time to write in his name in the radiopersonality category apparently outnumbers the number of those who are tired of him.
“It means a whole bunch of people spent anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes to fill out the form. It’s awesome to me,” said Wiley, who has been with KQNG for over 15 years.
“I feel grateful because of the time, effort and energy (voters took) to fill out the form.” The show of support makes him feel “obligated, again,” to produce quality radio programming.
“I owe them my best work.” The annual Best of Kauai special section, published recently, included the results of hundreds of votes by Kauaians on everything from different categories of restaurants to types of foods, night life, and many other “Best of” categories.
KQNG was also named best Kaua‘i radio station, Wiley is certain because of the service it provides to the community.
Radio is and needs to be “interactive, immediate and intimate,” he said.
