Ricky Tokunaga was busy selling his takenoko Sunday when the Lihu‘e Hongwanji celebrated both Labor Day and back-toschool with their annual breakfast.
The event is always good to catch up on things n Helen Yamaguchi is already anxious about her grandson’s upcoming trip to the 2005 Tournament of Roses parade as a KAIMB player, and Mona Lee is always good for a conversation anywhere.
Ricky is anxiously waiting for Friday when KIF football starts up (are they going to have the Hole-e- Cow?), and Charlene Quinones is ready with her line of Raider logowear (and, don’t forget the Red Raider cookbooks, too). And, if it gets too hot, make sure you visit Big Toe Kaluahine and his shave ice ‘ohana.
Up at the Lihu‘e United Church of Christ, pastor Wesley Elmore and his parishioners did their usual great job with the 26th Annual Labor Day breakfast where Michael Ratcliffe had a whole ‘ohana of people enjoying the meal before heading up for The Home Depot. The breakfast is always a family event as David and Shirley Iha had their crew in tow as did Lois Ricciardi. Of course, it’s always nice to see Joyce and Richard “Capt. Zack” Anglemyer. Nina Saraos is always on duty at the breakfast, as is Dr.
Monty Down, whom pastor Elmore said came off a late shift, and still managed to do a great entertainment stint. Of course, it takes a whole lot of people to make it all work, and hats off to everyone for another great event! But, before football, it’ll be volleyball tonight at the Raiederdome when Kaua‘i hosts Kapa‘a for the season opener…JV games go off at 3 p.m.
