A 64-year-old man apparently drown Sunday while snorkeling near Kukui‘ula Small Boat Harbor near Po‘ipu.
According to county officials, the man was reached in the surf 200 yards east of Kukui‘ula by a firefighter, who was first on the scene after the 3 p.m. distress call.
The firefighter, who was quickly joined by lifeguards on a personal watercraft, pulled the man to shore at Kukui‘ula, and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
He was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital by American Medical Response professionals, but he was pronounced dead.
