The tribute and final services for Kaipo Kealalio was very touching, and kudos should go out to all the Rotarians and Boy Scout leaders and Scouts who put forth their energies to make it very special for all the people whose lives Kaipo touched. While on assignment at Ben Franklin/Ace Hardware, it was a pleasure to run into Tony Wong who has been busy “recycling” beer and soda pop tops into fancy headbands – he even showed Kendyce how to make those fancy rope thingies to hang on your car mirror. Kiichi Fujii (he had to make a return trip to get his coupon) was also there as were a lot of familiar faces who were checking out the place in preparation for the big Labor Day sale that follows the Labor Day breakfast at the Lihu‘e United Church of Christ. Hats off too, to Deborah Baker who finalized her last Visitor Industry Charity Walk Thursday night (Sandi Kato-Kluke did a great job pre-viewing for Simon Jongert), and, if you were there, how many of you met the Dennis replacement? Jolene Ogle will do a great job taking over Deborah’s slot, and Larry Lee (he’s trying to connect some Hawai‘i college golf teams to the Collegiate Cup coming up in the Spring) represented Dickie Chang who kicked in $2,600 towards the 2005 campaign! And, yes, Simon will be the chair of the 2005 walk as well – and, if you need practice, keep an eye open for the Kaua‘i United Way Walk (check out Lori Almarza’s blinkie yellow ribbon) – it’s a good warm-up! OK – so, if you’re not going to the UH game, here’s the scoop, thanks to Monty and Dave in circulation.
Jordon Dizon’s game will be on Fox Sports, Channel 20 starting at 2 p.m. Saturday – just let me know where everybody’s going to be!
