The weekend was full of farm-fair stuff (great job coordinating the keiki competition, Joni Gokan!), and Zack and Marina Octavio took advantage of ‘no games’ Saturday night to check out the commercial booths. Yukie DeSilva was also doing her stint at the Kapa‘a Pop Warner booth (nice touch with the flying saucers!), and when did Kristen Garma get to do her thing at the Koloa Pop Warner booth? Meanwhile, Don Taylor was busy dispensing malasada instead of ice cream Sunday at the Lihu‘e Pop Warner booth, and Tasha Okamoto (she was a Kekaha Pop Warner cheerleader) is lamenting the fact that her summer vacation ends Saturday when she leaves for Tacoma, Wash.
Sheila Nakayama beat any late well-wishers Monday when she left for college in Tacoma, too, while mom and dad get to catch the red-eye Monday night.
Maj. Victor Aguilar of the Waimea JROTC is glad the fair is over, since his cadets were busy for four days doing opala detail, and Ron Wiley was everywhere on the fairgrounds doing his Ron Wiley thing.
Meanwhile, hats off to Lincoln Ching and Laura Kawamura for doing such a great job coordinating all those 4-Hers…grandma Kawamura had the task of getting all the trophies to the car. Ray and Sherry Hoe were among the produce bidders (Veronica Pablo missed getting her bid in on Box #4, so mom and dad won’t be having mango), as was John Stem and Sonia and Eddie (what is a jack fruit?) Topenio…$55 for a pineapple?!? Derrick Nishimura also put in his four nights at the fair…even got wet in the tear-down Sunday afternoon.
OK, it’s back to earth time — gotta check in with chef Billy Gibson at KCC — fine dining started up again yesterday!
