Two Kaua‘i students received the Kamehameha Schools 2004 Principal’s Awards. Linnea Heu of ‘Ele‘ele (class of 2007) and Ciera Cummings of Wailua Homesteads (class of 2008) received grants of $500 each from the Ke Ali‘i Pauahi Foundation to pursue their educational endeavors in the 2004–05 school year.
The award winners must rank in the top 10 percent of their class, must have demonstrated qualities of leadership and citizenship, as well as exhibited exceptional attitude, positive outlook, and willingness to give of themselves to the service of others.
Each year one male and one female from each grade are selected for the award.
The Ke Ali‘i Pauahi Foundation is a charitable support organization that supports the education mission of Kamehameha Schools by providing grants and scholarships for educational purposes.
Two Kaua‘i students were awarded $1,200 scholarships and three were awarded $500 scholarships from the trustees of the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund, for the 2004–05 school year.
The scholarships are awarded annually based upon merit to Hawai‘i Government Employee’s Association members and their dependents.
The $1,200 scholarships were awarded to Ava T. Pommerenk and Zuri F.
Pommerenk, daughters of Deborah Erikson.
Ava plans to attend Naropa University in Colorado, and Zuri plans to attend the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
The $500 scholarships were awarded to Stephanie M. Miyasaki, daughter of Julie A. Miyasaki, who plans to attend Pacific University, Oregon; Whitney L. Planas, daughter of Gregory W. Planas of Kaua‘i, who plans to attend Seattle Pacific University; and Nikela K. Ramelb, daughter of Roxanne Callahan, who plans to attend Eastern Oregon University.
