School started on Wednesday at Koloa School, but back-toschool activities have been buzzing for the past several weeks at the annual Nukumoi Surf Co. store in Po‘ipu.
Students heading off-island have been visiting the popular surf store in search of logowear, stickers, and other items which can be found at the Po‘ipu shop so they would have a taste of home when they set up their dorms and apartments.
“Pooch” Claytor, one of the store managers said that over the seasons they’ve expanded their offerings of tee-shirt lines, and currently, what are popular are the rash guards that are used when they offer their surf lessons.
Unlike the other name brands like Quiksilver and Roxy, the Nukumoi items are available only at the Nukumoi shops, and as a testiment to the popularity of “surf” fashion, a special tent has been set up on the lawn of the shop to accomodate the overflow.
Just up the hill, Koloa School has adopted a school uniform code for the year that started Wednesday.
Although students reported for school, the shipment of special Koloa “duck” shirts in either black or red had not arrived, but office staff said they were expected any time soon.
The students will be required to wear those shirts on school days with the exception of Aloha Wednesdays when they can wear other clothes.
