Host Kaua‘i High School (Red team) started the festivities off on court one at 8:00 a.m., with a win over visiting Lincoln City Tigers of Oregon, 25-15, 25-21.
Rio Mesa out of California slapped around Iowa, 25-21, 25-12 in a battle against two visiting squads.
California’s Club Dublin got the Golden State in the win column, as they upended Iowa, 25-18, 25-20.
The Lincoln City Tigers also got themselves their first win of the tournament, with a victory over Rio Mesa, 27-25, 27-25, which proved to be one of the most competitive matches of the day.
Kamehameha-Maui scored its first win in its very first match over Iowa, 25-13, 25-18.
Kaua‘i High School continued its hot streak with a win over Rio Mesa, 25-21, 25-16.
Meanwhile, Kamehameha-Maui also got its second win in as many tries against Dublin, 25-16, 25-11. Roosevelt started off the tournament with a win over the Lincoln City Tigers, 25-16, 25-20.
In a match featuring two undefeated teams, Kamehameha-Maui suffered its first loss of the tourney to Kaua‘i High, 25-14, 25-18.
The first three-setter of the day was between Roosevelt and the Red Raiders, but Kaua‘i High didn’t pick up the win this time, as Roosevelt took the match, 25-16, 26-28, 15-7, which gave the host team its first loss of the tournament.
Roosevelt continued to play tough in the next game against Club Dublin, but the California squad found a way to win, 19-25, 25-22, 18-20, putting a blemish on Roosevelts tourney record.
Today’s action starts at 8:00 a.m. at Kaua‘i High School Gym, as pool play continues and the playoffs set for Saturday at both Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a High Gyms. There will be three winners in the tournament, Po‘okela (Gold: Champion and Exceptional), Olinolino (Silver: Bright and Brilliant), and Onipa‘a (Bronze: Strong and Firm).
