Officials at the National Tropical Botanical Garden at Lawa‘i Kai announced that free, self-guided tours of the McBryde Garden are offered to Hawai‘i residents daily. Proof of Hawai‘i residency is required.
Trams depart the NTBG visitor center on Lawa‘i Road across from the county’s Spouting Horn Park every hour on the half-hour from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and no reservations are required. Tours last around two hours.
Check in is 15 minutes prior to tram departure.
The NTBG is a nonprofit institution, with headquarters in Kalaheo, whose officials are dedicated to tropical-plant research, conservation, and education, with emphasis on rare and endangered species.
