LIHU‘E n Hokuala and the Wes Syde Gurls closed the junior Olympic softball league Friday night at Isenberg. Once again Hokuala proved to be more dominate than the Wes Syde Gurls. During four and a half innings of play, they picked up a 12-3 win. Hokuala ace pitcher Wailana Borrero allowed three runs on one hit, walked a trio of runs and struck out five Wes Syde Batters. Hokuala defensively committed only a sole error. Suffering the loss of the Wes Syde Gurls was Sandra, who allowed twelve runs on nine Hokuala hits, walked four and struck out a pair of batters. The Wes Syde defense had six miscues.
Borrero not only pitched a great game, she also came through with her bat. Borrero went two for four with a pair of singles and a couple of scored runs, as well as a stolen base. Krystal Ijima also went two for four with two scored runs and recorded a stolen base. Jaexenne Balilea rounded up the top hitters for Hokuala. Balilea went one for three with four scored runs and accumulated five stolen bases.
‘Leo was the only Wes Syde batter who managed to get the only hit off of Borrero. She hit a two RBI double in the game. Keala Schmidt and Sandra scored a run.
In their second match up of the night, Hokuala won by a score of 17-7 in five innings of play. For Hokuala, Wailana Borrero and Jaexenne Balilea shared time on the mound and for the Wes Syde Gurls, Kanoe Carveiro was called for the duties. Borrero pitched for three innings before being relieved by Balilea, who finished the game. Borrero allowed five runs on five Wes Syde hits, walked and struck out two batters. Balilea allowed two runs on a hit and walked five. Hokuala’s defense committed three miscues. Carveiro allowed seventeen runs on eight Hokuala hits, walked eight batters and struck out two batters. The Wes Syde Gurls had a total of eight errors.
Topping the bats for Hokuala was Sara Phillips and Brittany Brackenridge. Phillips went two for three with two singles, a pair of stolen bases and scored runs and also batted in a run. Brackenridge also went two for three with two singles, a pair of scored runs and an RBI.
For the Wes Syde Gurls, Kayla Shimatsu and Kanoe Carveiro came through offensively. Shimatsu went two for three with two singles and scored a run. Carveiro went one for two with a two RBI single and scored a run.
On Thursday night, Na Koa played a double header against the South Side. Na Koa dominated once again as they won back to back games that night. Stephanie Kawamura picked up the win for Na Koa in two and a half innings. The end result was Na Koa being victorious 22-5. Kawamura allowed five runs on five hits, walked and struck out four South Side batters and defensively the Na Koa defense committed three errors. Calisa Braun took the loss for the South Side. Braun allowed twenty two runs on eight Na Koa hits, walked seven, and struck out a pair of batters. South Side committed five miscues.
Topping the offense for Na Koa was Ella Arume, Hanalei Gomes, Jocelyn Enrique and Stephanie Kawamura. Arume went a perfect two for two with a pair of singles and scored four runs. Gomes went one for two with a triple and scored a couple of runs. Enrique hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second racking up three RBI. Kawamura had a single and scored four runs.
The South Side’s top batters were Malia Aki, Calisa Braun, Britney Braun and Moki Aki. Malia Aki went one for two with a single and scored a run. Calisa Braun also went one for two and hit a single. Britney Braun and Moki Aki both went two for three with a single and scored a run.
Taking the pitching duties for Na Koa was Hanalei Gomes and for the South Side Moki Aki was called to take the mound. Gomes allowed five runs on two hits, walked seven batters and struck out a South Side batter and they committed three miscues. Aki allowed twenty four runs on twelve hits, walked eleven batters and struck out a pair of Na Koa batters. The South Side had a total of nine errors.
Stephanie Kawamura, Hanalei Gomes and Cassie Mundon led Na Koa to their season closer game. Kawamura went a perfect three for three with a trio of singles, drove in a pair of runs and scored a couple of runs. Gomes went one for two with a double, and three RBI and scored three times. Mundon went two for four with a triple and a double, scored twice and had five runs batted in.
Moki Aki and Calisa Braun came through for the South Side as they were the only two to get hits off of Gomes. Aki had a single, a stolen base and scored twice. Braun hit a single, stolen a bag and scored a run.
