Charleen Akimoto
A memorial service will be held for Charleen Tsurue Akimoto at St. John’s Episcopal Church in ‘Ele‘ele, 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12. She died June 30, 2004 in San Diego at the age of 69.
Born June 4, 1935, in Kilauea, she was a homemaker and a member of the Seaside Quilters in San Diego.
She is survived by her husband: Wallace Akimoto; son, Darrell Akimoto; daughter, Nadine Neel; brothers Michael Kikugawa and Daniel Kikugawa; sisters, Junice Kitabayashi and Ruth Ragucci; and grandchild, Ryan.
Robert Holtwick
Robert (Bob) Bruce Holtwick, died peacefully at his home in Kapa’a on July 8, 2004 at the age of 52.
He was a 1969 graduate of Kapa’a High School and a resident of Kaua’i for 40 years. After attending Kaua’i Community College, he joined the Army, spending 3 years at various stations as an electronics technician. For the next several years he worked as a civilian in various assignments on Kaua’i and overseas for NASA, Bendix, and Allied Signal Corporation. Returning to Kaua’i in 1991, he settled in Kapa’a where he enjoyed music, electronics, and computers. He was fond of gardening and spending time with his friends.
Robert is survived by: a brother; Timothy Boyd Holtwick of Simi Valley, California; a sister; Katherine Anne Holtwick of Amarillo, Texas, and her daughters, Brenda Caldwell of Dallas, Texas, and Stephanie Watkins of Amarillo, Texas. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Barbara Joan Holtwick, of Simi Valley, California; Barb’s son Mark Farrell of Oakland, California; and Barb’s daughter, Michelle Grammer of Palmdale, California, who with her husband, Dean Grammer, are the parents of Haylee and Timothy Grammer, also of Palmdale, Calif. Robert was the son of the late Chet and late Elsa Holtwick; long time residents of Kaua’i.
Robert’s ashes were scattered at sea off Kalapaki Beach, Nawiliwili, preceding a short memorial gathering of friends and family at Kalapaki in Lihu’e, on Thursday, July 15.
Mary Liilii Rumion Sato
Mary Liilii Rumion Sato of Hanama‘ulu, died Aug. 5, 2004, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 80.
A nurses aide at Wilcox Hospital, she was born May 15, 1924, in Kapa‘a.
Preceded in death by husband Frank Sa, Sr., son Stanley Sa, sister Germina Quereto and brothers Albert Rumion Jr. and George Waialeale Rumion, she is survived by one son Frank (Georgia) Sa, Jr. of Arizona; three daughters: Georgette Carineo of Hanama‘ulu, Diane (Paul) Manoi of Kekaha and Carol Manoi of Kalaheo; three sisters: Beatrice Billedo of Kapa‘a, Connie Carvalho of Lihu‘e, Louise Young of Ohio; two brothers: Manuel Rumion of California and Robert Rumion of Nevada; 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Lihu‘e Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
