Na Koa took the first contest, 9-3 in six innings. Hokuala had not suffered a loss since the 2002 season and Na Koa capitalized by scoring eight unearned runs in the top of the first inning.
Dusty Farias took the loss for Hokuala, she pitched two third innings before being relieved by Wailana Borrero. Farias allowed eight runs on no hits and walked eight.
Borrero finished the game allowing one run on three hits, while walking three and striking out eleven Na Koa batters. Defensively, Hokuala committed one error.
Picking up the win for Na Koa was Stephanie Kawamura who pitched the entire game.
Kawamura allowed three runs on six hit, walked and struck out three Hokuala batters and the Na Koa defense made only a sole error. Going the distance for Na Koa’s bats were Jocelyn Enrique, Maka Fereira, Hanalei Gomes and Stephanie Kawamura.
Enrique went one for two with a double, three runs batted in and had a pair of stolen bases.
Fereira went one fore three with a scored run and batted in a run. Gomes went one for four with a single and a stolen base. Kawamura scored three runs, had a stolen base, and had an RBI.
Krystal Ijima, Brittany Brackenridge, and Melissa Iida topped bats for Hokuala. Ijima went two for three with a pair of stolen bases and a pair or runs scored. Brackenridge went one for two and scored a run.
Iida also went one for two with a stolen base and batted in a run.
After suffering their first loss of the season, Hokuala came back to rally in the second game.
They took the contest 7-2 in seven innings of play.
Picking up the win for Hokuala was Wailana Borrero. Borrero allowed two runs on three Na Koa hits, while walking five and striking out thirteen.
The Hokuala defense committed three errors.
Taking the loss for Na Koa was Le‘a Tamura, returning from O‘ahu for the game, who pitched for six and one third innings before being relieved by Stephanie Kawamura.
Tamura allowed four runs on five hits, walked two batters and struck out one.
Kawamura closed the game and pitched for two thirds of an inning.
She allowed three runs on two hits and struck out one.
Defensively, Na Koa had five miscues.
Sunny Chang, Brittany Brackenridge and Wailana Borrero topped Hokuala’s bats.
Change went two for three with a pair of singles, scored a run and had a stolen base.
Brackenridge went two for four with two doubles, a pair of runs batted in and scored a run. Borrero scored three runs and had a stolen base.
Jocelyn Enrique, Cassie Mundon and Stephanie Kawamura headed the Na Koa bats.
Enrique went one for two with a single, a trio of stolen bases and scored a run.
Mundon went one for three with a single, a pair of stolen bases and batted in a run.
Kawamura went one for four with a single.
Na Koa hosted the South Side at the new Kapa‘a Ball Park in the second to the last contest of the season.
The double header between Hokuala and the Wes Syde Gurls scheduled for Thursday will be moved to today at Isenberg at 5:00 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict.
