Robert P. “Bobby” Toki of Kapa‘a died at his home on July 28, 2004, at the age of 59.
Born in Waialua, O‘ahu, on Sept. 11, 1944, he is survived by two sons, Barry Lee Toki of Honolulu, and Jayson Toki of Kapa‘a; one daughter: Jaydene Toki of Hilo; one granddaughter Sache Goode of Tacoma, Wash., He is also survived by his father: Frank Mamalias; four brothers: Howard M. (Adeline) Toki Jr. of Las Vegas, Gerald (Vicky) Toki of Glendale, Arizona, Ronald (Diana) Toki of Wailua, and Franklyn (Debra) Mamalias of Wailuku, Maui; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Aug. 7, with visitation to be from 9:30 a.m. and service to begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Waikaea Canal (Lihi) in Kapa‘a. Scattering of his ashes will follow the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Kenneth Ronning Jr.
Kenneth Lawrence Ronning, Jr., of Fairfax, California and Hanalei, passed away while surfing at San Onofre on Tuesday, July 27, 2004.
Born on November 8, 1948 in Alhambra, California, and growing up in San Marino, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Marie (Annareno) Ronning.
He was a General Building Contractor who lived and worked in California and Hawai‘i. He moved to the islands in the late 1960s to surf the North Shore of O‘ahu. After traveling awhile, he and his family relocated to Kaua‘i in 1980. Later, moving between Fairfax and Hanalei, when on Kaua‘i he loved to spend time surfing with his family and friends at the Hanalei Pier. Always smiling and with a kind word for everyone, Ken was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife Susan and son Eric, of Fairfax, California; a daughter, Mele Ronning Mahuiki and her husband, Ezera, of Hanalei; a sister, Patricia Jewell and her husband Pete, of Arcadia, Calif., sister Kay Mullin of Carpenteria, Calif., grandchildren Mokihana Mahuiki and Ekela Kai Mahuiki of Hanalei, and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Hanalei Pier at the convenience of the family.
Mary Louis
Mary Louis of Kapa‘a, died July 30, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 79.
Born Jan. 19, 1925, in Hawai‘i, she was a nurse.
She is survived by two sons: Abel (Jessica) Louis, Jr. of Lihu‘e and Roland (Susan) Louis of Waipahu; three daughters: Laverne (Jaime) Villon, Sr. of Lihu‘e, Carol (Gary) Palmeira of Hanama‘ulu and Sheila (Tony) Belarmino of Hanama‘ulu; one sister: Patricia Efhan Nakamura of Texas; six brothers: Maximo Efhan of Wailua, Inocencio (Mercy) Efhan of Wailua, Vicente (Helga) Efhan of Wailua, Gary (Judy) Efhan of California, Henry (Priscilla) Efhan and John (Delores) Efhan of California; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be Saturday, Aug. 7, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a with viewing from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Jim. Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Theolinda Gomes
Theolinda Gomes of Lihu‘e, died Aug. 3, 2004, on Kaua‘i at the age of 84.
Born Dec. 10, 1919, in Kalopa, Hawai‘i, she was a loving mother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James A. Gomes, a contractor. She accompanied him on many trips to the National Home Builders Association where she rose to become the national president of the Home Builders Association Women’s Auxiliary, the only person from the state of Hawai‘i to attain such distinction. She was a lifetime honorary director.
She is survived by five daughters: Donna Lee Cockett of Lihu‘e, Annette Figuered of Kansas, Margo Baker of O‘ahu, Susann Joslyn of O‘ahu, Linda Schweitzer of Hawai‘i; two sons: James Gomes of Hawai‘i and Joseph Gomes of Honolulu; 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, Aug. 9, in the mauka chapel at Borthwick Mortuary in Honolulu from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. services will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Mortuary.
John Ilalaole, Jr.
John Ilalaole, Jr. of Kalaheo, died Aug. 3, 2004, at his home, at the age of 81.
Born Sept. 27, 1922, on Kaua‘i, he was chief clerk for the court system.
He is survived by his wife: Bella Ilalaole of Kalaheo; three daughters: Mary Pualanai Silva of ‘Oma‘o, and Frances (Saia) Finau of Honolulu, Marilyn Planas (James “Jimmy” Cabral) of Kalaheo; one brother: George (Sheila) Ilalaole of Honolulu; six grandchildren: Clayton Paul Silva Jr., Jasmyn Lei Healani Ann Silva, Bella (Don) Faumuina and Louisa Finau, Jackie Planas and John (Brooke Albarado) Planas; five great grandchildren: Noah and Jonah Faumuina, Makakoa Finau, Keilee and Keiley Albarado-Planas; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be Saturday, Aug. 14, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa with viewing from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at noon. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe
